FAQ

Why is the price $200 an hour?

Each of our drones is valued at about $5,000 and comes with a limited two-year warranty. Since drones can be lost or damaged during operations, the rate we charge helps offset their purchase cost over time. In addition, our team consists of licensed, trained pilots whose time—including travel to remote sites—is highly valuable. Even so, our service remains much less costly than using helicopters or manned aircraft.

How can this benefit my business?

Affordable drones have made aerial photography and videography a key tool for real estate, land-based businesses, wildlife research, industrial projects, and many other fields. Modern drones feature outstanding cameras and much longer flight times than earlier models. With a modest investment, you can significantly boost your business operations.

Why can’t I just buy my own drone?

Many people use DJI Mini drones like the 4 Pro or 5 Pro, which are lightweight and don’t need a license, but their cameras only have wide-angle lenses and require close, noisy flights for good wildlife shots. They’re also less effective in high winds, which are common in the Kluane region. We use a registered Mavic 4 Pro with better wind resistance and up to 6x optical zoom, along with custom Yukon-built drones designed for extreme weather. Our experienced pilots consistently capture smooth, high-quality aerial footage, unlike novice users who may struggle.

Where can you fly?

We operate west of Whitehorse in southwest Yukon, including all locations further out than Crestview (e.g. Takhini River, Mendenhall, Haines Junction, Destruction Bay, Burwash Landing, Beaver Creek). Flights can reach up to 400 ft (120 m) above ground level. Operations within national parks require a special permit and advance notice. We primarily work in the Kluane region but can consider other Yukon and northern BC locations if travel and accommodation are provided.

I am concerned about privacy. Please don’t fly over my house!

We don’t fly over private property or First Nation settlement land without explicit permission. We also avoid taking photos that could violate relevant privacy law.

What are the video and image specifications?

Our DJI Mavic 4 Pro features three cameras and 512 GB storage. The 100 MP Hasselblad main camera records at 6K/60fps or 4K/120fps, the 48 MP medium telephoto captures 4K/120fps at 2.5x zoom, and the 50 MP telephoto shoots 4K/100fps at 6x zoom. Higher zoom is ideal for telephotos and wildlife, while wide angles work best for close-ups.  The thermal infrared drone provides 320×240 resolution at 30 fps—suitable for building imaging and wildlife detection—with up to 32 GB SD card storage. Higher thermal resolutions would add significant weight and cost.

Does your thermal camera tell the exact temperature?

We use lightweight thermal cameras built for small drones, capturing black-and-white images that reveal how much infrared energy objects emit based on their temperature and material. Materials like polished metal or glass can appear cooler or reflective in the images. While our surveys don’t provide exact surface temperatures, they help identify areas of significant heat loss so you can better address insulation and water damage repairs.

Can you repair or build custom drones?

We offer a workshop with repair and engineering services, but do not service DJI drones—please contact DJI for those needs. Our founder is an Aeronautical Engineering graduate, and we have built custom drones for BC Search and Rescue and other clients. Reach out for Yukon-built custom drone solutions. Soon, select Yukon-made drone products will be available for purchase here and through outdoor retailers in Yukon, BC, Alberta, the USA Mountain West, West Coast, and Alaska.
